Plano, TX- Last Friday, Bill O’Reilly, host of Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor," reported on Christmas censorship within the Plano Independent School District. This report sent shock waves through the Plano ISD, as they have just asked O’Reilly to correct the statement that “a school told students they couldn't wear red and green.”
The case, Morgan, et al. v. Plano Independent School District, originated in 2003 when several students were prohibited from distributing gifts with a religious theme to classmates. Although U.S. District Judge Paul Brown issued a temporary restraining order in December 2004 and attorneys have asked Plano ISD several times to cease unconstitutional policies, they refuse to back down and the case is still in the litigation process.
The following statement is from the Chief Counsel for Liberty Legal Institute Kelly Shackelford, lead attorney for the clients in the Morgan v. Plano ISD case.
“I think it is sad that the District would now try to pretend like it is pro-Christmas. Students were banned from giving their friends a candy cane with a story of Jesus on it, inviting a friend to church and even writing “Merry Christmas” on letters to U.S. soldiers. School officials should spend less time arguing about non-issues and focus on correcting the unconstitutional policies practiced within the District.”
