Limited Government

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." ~Benjamin Franklin

About the issue:

Part of Liberty Institute's stance includes limiting government so that everyday Americans can live their lives with minimal government interference. However, due to the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) and the stimulus package, the federal government is now taking more and more money out of the pockets of those who need it most. Virtually all of the legislation recently proposed for healthcare reform would shackle our futures and the futures of our children and grandchildren to a nearly $1 trillion debt. When all Americans are reevaluating their budgets to make them more financially sound, why is the federal government continuing to spend regardless of their budget?

Our government cannot continue increasing spending without demanding more money from the American people, so imagine what tax rates will look like ten years from now. How much of your paycheck will go to the federal government?

What We're Doing:

Liberty Institute adamantly opposes increasing the federal deficit, whether by passing comprehensive health reform or bailing out failing businesses. We believe the best economic stimulus is found in tax cuts, so the people can genuinely stimulate the economy instead of a growing economic dependence on a black hole of debt. In order to bring this mindset to the halls of Washington, D.C, Liberty Institute is working to encourage Americans to contact their elected officials and encourage them to uphold financial accountability from every government office.
